PROFILE

I have over 20 years experience in the User Experience field. I am a creative problem solver who thrives in a multidisciplinary team, driven by finding the motivation and intent behind user behavior and feedback. I work closely with all members of the team to discover, design and implement project requirements. As an User Experience Designer I can quickly conceptualize requirements and focus on the primary user tasks. I enjoy collaborating with team members to solve technology challenges and always strive for breakthrough improvements whether incrementally or as whole redesigns.

TEACHING STRATEGIES

Senior User Experience DESIGNER

December 2019 - Current

The ongoing project focuses on re-engineering the primary workflow for teachers which includes mobile and responsive considerations. Temporarily, held the Product Manager position until a permanent replacement could be made. Created personas and journey maps from gathered research to provide a lens for additional initiatives. Collaboration with key subject matter experts and members of the steering committee to iterate on concepts that were then tested with teachers and then revised based on feedback. Used techniques to gather feedback from other team members not directly involved in the project to create larger data sets on effectiveness of the designs. Lead user research through direct interviews, both qualitative and quantitative data to identify teacher pain points and drive design improvements. Proposed new products and feature enhancements. Implemented Usertesting.com to validate designs and improve experiences for the teacher and reported out the results. Lead the recruitment of custom pools of internal and external user testing participants. Created supplementary training experiences for the user testing participants. Used Asana as a tool to project manage the intake and completion of the user testing studies. Created and tested successful interfaces for AI suggestions for teachers. Promoted the UX department as a center for excellence. Supported design system standards and associated implementations.  Created product tour videos for both board members as well as customers.


Discovery Education

Senior User Experience DESIGNER

January 2016 – December 2019

Applied existing knowledge of teacher and student personas in the domain of classroom delivery of digital curriculum and media. I created new products for assessments and online curriculum for both the teacher and student. New products included core curriculum designed for both online and offline delivery. I was part of a team who created a new product which leveraged web sockets technology to provide a creation and collaboration tool for students and teachers. Responsible for validating designs with user testing, surveys and interview feedback from teachers across the country.

Agile Product Owner, Senior Business Analyst

September 2010 – January 2016

Applied Agile practices to feature creation and implementation. Projects included new assessment products from fully dynamic assessment question delivery to predefined pooled assessments. I also worked on assessment reporting interfaces to help the teacher understand assessment trending and student performance gaps. Other projects included updating the curriculum delivery application to leverage new back-end and front-end technologies to dramatically improve the user experience and increase student engagement as well as extend the portability of the content. Other projects included upgrades to the content authoring application to include new methods for displaying 3rd party content and also authoring of rubrics to be used as part of an online grading experience.


NAVIGATION ARTS

Senior Information Architect

November 2008 – September 2010

Collaborated and innovated with clients to bring measurable improvements to the online user experience. Worked as a consultant on projects for Marriott, Office of Naval Research, George Washington University, Department of Energy, and the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP). This work involved requirements gathering, information architecture and integration with internal content managements systems including Sitecore, Vignette and other custom data stores. Project type range included social promotion through blog driven websites as well as customer-driven experiences for e-commerce websites.

Responsible for requirements documentation, functional specification documentation, wire frame prototyping, user flow documentation, and task flow analysis. Successfully led projects and project upgrades for a proprietary content management system and the corresponding published content which is part of the main customer facing application. Job responsibilities included coordination between Instructional Designers, Project Managers, Graphic Designers, Software Engineers and usability testing. Point person to gather business and functional requirements from business owners and manage requests. Responsible for additional tasks of rapid concept prototyping to help communicate requirements to team members.
